
The First Year Finisher (FYF) event celebrates active WE CARE Community clients who have achieved their 1st year mark of sobriety. Held on 29th June, this was the 5th run of the First Year Finisher (FYF) since WE CARE moved to its current premises in 2015. With the rise in ownership of mobile phones and technology, the internet is closely intertwined with our daily lives. For some individuals, the compulsive use of Internet and Gaming affects their academics, career and/or important relationships. WE CARE has introduced an Internet & Gaming Addiction (IGA) Intervention Programme, which is a structured individual therapy programme designed for people experiencing compulsive internet use or/and gaming. Counselling is provided by trained addiction specialists.

About 150 volunteers and race participants were up and about in the wee hours of Saturday morning to take part in the 3rd edition of the Amazing WE CARE Race. There were many whacky contestants on the field in fascinating costumes that only added to the vibrancy of the day.

Climbing a mountain is hard work. When the going gets tough, we draw inspiration from the summit ahead. Conquering the peak is a reason for celebration. But some of us face the challenge of climbing out of a deep valley, which is tougher. Especially since the valley below is a constant reminder of our past. This led WE CARE to start the First Year Finisher awards in the year 2016. This award is a celebration of the recovery journey and to recognise the hard work of all the members, volunteers, family and friends.

During an empowering personal strength exercise, Shanti* got feedback about her "elegant voice". Using this feedback, the young lady envisioned herself as a presenter when she turned 18. This dream gave her more drive to excel in her studies, one less reason to experiment with drugs or join street gangs......
