Polar Puffs & Cakes to raise funds for We Care Community Services

Polar Puffs & Cakes Pte Ltd will be raising funds for WE CARE Community Services Limited from 20 Feb 2010 to 31 Mar 2010, in conjunction with its tie up with “ Happy Go Lucky” movie. Polar will be producing specially designed butter cookies named Lucky Star Cookies, to be sold at all its 32 retail outlets in Singapore. Each pack of cookies will be sold at $$5.50 and $2 will be donated to WE CARE for every pack of cookies sold.

The 8th FREE programme

We will be conducting the 8th run of the FREE programme from 12th Jan 2009 to 06th Apr 2009. This time, we are again running it in partnership with a half way house, HighPoint Community Services Association at No.1 Lor 23 Geylang . The programme will be run on the new format of nine weeks and will be attended by 20 participants from the half way house.

FREE Programme Graduation

The 7th FREE Graduation celebration was held on Saturday, Jan 09 2009. The event was well attended by 60 people made up of the participants, family members and friends. 14 participants received certificates of completion.

New FIRE Programme

The FIRE Programme is our latest Educational initiative currently being piloted at Half Way House. Read More…

WE CARE, in collaboration with SCORE will conduct 3 runs of the FIRE (Facilitated In-house Recovery Education) Program for residents of Halfway Houses. The first run is from April 16th to May 23rd.

Each program runs for 42 hours. Each module is 2 hours, comprising of one hour of psycho-education and the second hour is for Process Group discussion.
The topics that are covered in the programme are:
a) Coping with Stress - Addictions and Lifestyle
b) Anger
c) Feelings
d) Assertiveness
e) Art Therapy
f) 12 Step Programmes and Alternatives
g) Circle of Support
h) Barriers to Community Integration

Marjorie Nixon has returned to join our team here at We CARE as the Program Director. Many of you remember her and her contributions to We Care when she served as the Principal Therapist in the CAMP Program at IMH from Sept. 2005-Sept. 2007. She has over 30 years experience in the field of addictions, pioneering this work in recovery in the late 1970s and is recognized for her achievements in the treatment of women and substance abuse. She co-owned and directed an outpatient addictions clinic in Wisconsin, USA. For many years as well as providing direct client care. When asked about coming back she said, “This is a labor of love for me. I believe so much in the Mission of We Care and am thrilled to be a part of it.”

Is playing the stock market gambling addiction?

Leading experts in the gambling treatment field knew all along the devastation caused by compulsive gamblers to themselves and their families through gambling in the stock market. Stock market gamblers represent over 20% of gamblers. Gamblers Anonymous, recently addressed this type of gambling in their literature for their membership. It states “don’t tempt or test yourself. Don’t associate with acquaintances who gamble. Don’t go in or near gambling establishments. Don’t gamble for anything, this includes buying from the stock market commodities and options.”
