Formerly, the FREE program ran for 4 weeks during the day, and it was held only at the WECARE centre. In response to requests we received in dialogue sessions with HWHouses, the centre for the first time ran the FREE program at an outside location involving 2 halfway houses. The 9 week program ended in October 2008. This is a pilot-run of the new format and includes significant changes addressing the Half-way-house population’s needs. We are calling this proramme FIRE which stands for Facilitated In-House Recovery Education and we hope to introduce it to other Half-Way-Houses next year as one of our major programmes.
